‘Bunnies for Hunnies’ deliver Easter joy

Each Easter season, approximately 50 stuffed rabbits “hop” into the arms of children who are assisted by the Friendship Center. These new friendships are made thanks to “Bunnies for Hunnies,” a Newington-family organization that was started eight years ago by the Vass family. At that time, the twin daughters, Julianna and Elaina Vass, collected 50 toys for Prudence Crandall Center. The program has now expanded, providing more than 1,000 bunnies each year to various medical centers and social services programs throughout central Connecticut.

This was the fifth year “Bunnies for Hunnies” donated to the Friendship Center with approximately 300 being given over that time. Suzy Vass, mother, is a New Britain kindergarten teacher who has taught numerous children connected to the Friendship Center. Two years ago, she and her daughters were able to hand them out in person at FSC. “The girls and I rarely see the recipients of the bunnies so it was an absolute joy,” she recalled.
